Free play day a ‘highlight’ of city summer
Activities at the event include mud play, badge making, T-shirt printing and bubbles
Families across the city are invited to come along to National Play Day Cardiff 2025.
The event is taking place at Eastern Leisure Centre playing fields on August 6, from 1–4pm.
It is a free event which “promises to be an afternoon packed with creative, and active play for children and young people of all ages”, according to the council.
This year’s theme is ‘Spaces for Play’ and the aim is to celebrate the importance of accessible, inclusive places.
It has been organised by the Council’s Play Services team in partnership with other council departments and community organisations.
Activities at the event include mud play, badge making, T-shirt printing, bubbles, garden games, sports, samba drumming, circus skills and various arts and crafts.
Partners including South Wales Police, Menter Caerdydd, Cardiff Youth Services, Foster Wales Cardiff will be offering activities and sharing information about their services.
Cllr Peter Bradbury, cabinet member for tackling poverty and supporting young people, said: “We’re counting down the days now to National Play Day – one of the highlights of our summer events.
“It’s all about giving children the freedom to explore, create, and just be kids. It’s a celebration of imagination, friendship, and fun - so grab your sun hats and bring your sense of adventure.
The council is encouraging families to use active travel—walking, cycling, or public transport—to get to the event and help support a cleaner, greener Cardiff.
