A fundraising campaign launched by a former Welsh rugby captain has helped to fund refurbishment work at Cardiff Dogs Home.
The Cardiff council facility, which is located on Penarth road, is a dog rescue and rehoming centre.
The fundraising drive was launched by Sam Warburton and led by The Rescue Hotel, a charity established in 2020 to support Cardiff Dogs Home.
The campaign raised over £500,000 - including a £180,000 donation from the Pets Foundation.
The works have already started and will upgrade and expand kennels at the centre.
Cllr Norma Mackie, who is the cabinet member responsible for Cardiff Dogs Home, said: “These improvements will make a real difference to the welfare of the dogs. We’re incredibly grateful to The Rescue Hotel and all their supporters for making this possible.”
Matthew Acreman from The Rescue Hotel, said: “A huge thank you to all our supporters, funding partners, and the businesses who’ve stepped up to help by donating materials as well as their time and expertise to bring the project to life. Together we’re creating a better future for the dogs who need us most.”
The project has been supported by: RNF Group, Atlantic Recycling, Mike Gulley of Keyline and Llanharan Concrete, BECT Building Contractors, Gwalia, Monay Limited, Atkins Realis, Knox and Wells, Capital Construction Training Group.
