Cyclists across the city will soon be able to use an improved cycle route as part of the Taff Trail in Llandaff North after upgrades begin this autumn.

The work will take place in Hailey Park and is part of the council’s plan to improve cycling routes throughout the city.

According to Cardiff Council, the scheme will be completed by March 2026 “under the current timeline”.

The upgraded cycleway will be 3.5m wide - adjusted from the original 5-metre proposal - and the new route will broadly follow the alignment of the existing path.

The route is no longer near the children's play area - an issue that was highlighted during public consultations - and the upgraded path will be constructed using a warm, earthy shade to blend in with the park.

The construction of the scheme will also mitigate the following issues that were raised:

Cllr Dan De’Ath, cabinet member for climate change, strategic planning and transport, said: “We have consulted on this scheme twice and have listened to the views expressed. The chosen scheme is in line with the design requirements of the Active Travel Act, while ensuring that the environmental concerns raised in the public consultations are significantly reduced or mitigated.

“Constructing the scheme will involve a ‘no dig’ approach to protect tree roots, while an Ecological Clerk of Works will be in attendance to ensure Waxcap fungi are protected.”
