The fundraising drive was launched by Sam Warburton and led by The Rescue Hotel, a charity established in 2020 to support Cardiff Dogs Home.

The event is taking place at Eastern Leisure Centre playing fields on August 6, from 1–4pm.

According to Cardiff Council, the scheme will be completed by March 2026 “under the current timeline”.

The upgraded play area now includes a puzzles-and-games-themed zone and accessible equipment for children of all ages and abilities.

In total, £200,000 has been awarded to clubs through the scheme, which was delivered by Cardiff Council in partnership with Cardiff Met Sport.

The first phase of the project will start on August 1 with six lockers installed near Cardiff Castle.

Local businesses, sports clubs and community groups can lease a former sport site in Llandaff North.

Third sector organisations can apply for for funding up to £2,000 to help improve access to period products.
