Jobs boost as city to become ‘civil service’ hub
Cardiff is set to become a ‘civil service hub’ as thousands of government jobs are relocating from London.
The move forms part of a UK Government strategy which involves the disposal of 11 properties in London with a goal to achieve savings of £94 million.
Around 12,000 roles are are set to move including senior level positions and the UK Government’s fast-track graduate scheme.
Cardiff stands as the sole hub in Wales, along with 12 other UK locations such as York and Belfast.
Cardiff Council leader, Cllr Huw Thomas, stated: "This is a significant milestone for Cardiff and a testament to the long-term efforts we have put into preparing the ground for such opportunities. The new Civil Service hub will not only bring high-quality jobs to our city.
“It will also strengthen our position as a key player in the UK's public sector landscape. This could put real momentum into the Atlantic Wharf Office Campus, Central Square and Central Quay as top-class office locations attracting further investment."
Cardiff is currently home to over 9,000 civil service jobs.
