A new one-stop guide has been launched to help caregivers and families when caring for an unwell child.
‘A Family Guide to Keeping Your Child Healthy and Common Childhood Illnesses’ is a free, booklet with simple and practical advice.
It is available in 10 community languages - English, Welsh, Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Kurdish, Pashto and Tigrinya.
If offers clear advice on how to manage common illnesses or issues that children often experience, signs to look out for if medical assistance is required and where to go - helping families to avoid any unnecessary and sometimes lengthy waits in the Emergency Unit.
It also covers important topics including safe sleeping, emotional wellbeing and challenging behaviour and useful information about local services that can offer support.
The guide has been developed by the Cardiff and Vale Health Inclusion Service (CAVHIS), in partnership with a number of services and partner organisations including the Local Public Health Team, Cardiff Council and Cardiff University.
Cardiff Council Cabinet Member for Public Health and Equality, Cllr Julie Sangani, said the initiative “empowers families with accessible, trusted health advice”.
She continued: “By making this guide available in multiple languages, we’re helping to ensure that parents across the city can feel confident in caring for their child’s health. This is a great example of how partnership working can make a real difference in our communities."
The digital booklet is available here.
