Family pay tribute to “caring” cyclist, 72, who died after crash

The family of a 72-year-old cyclist has paid tribute to him after he died following a crash in Grangetown last May.

Brad Craven, from Roath, was hospitalised following a collision on Dunleavy Drive on May 17.

Mr Craven passed away on June 20 and his family have now released a statement.

Mr Craven’s family said: “He was a confident and experienced cyclist and was with his brother on their usual morning cycle when he suffered fatal injuries and did not regain consciousness following a head-on collision.

“Brad, a retired social worker at Llandough Hospital, will be remembered by all, as a very thoughtful and caring man who always put the welfare of others before his own.”

The incident took place at around 8.40am on May 17. According to the police, the vehicle involved was a blue Fiat 500 which was travelling in the opposite direction.

A man, 19, who was arrested following the incident, is currently released under investigation.

South Wales Police are asking people in the area at the time who have witnessed the incident, come across the scene afterwards or with dashcam footage to get in touch using reference 2500155483.
